Social Media Club Sydney invites you to attend a special SMCSYD event Social Personas: How different is the social media you from the real you?sponsored and hosted by Australia’s biggest brewer, Carlton and United Breweries (CUB).

CUB recently commissioned a study of Gen X and Gen Y, examining the way each generation has adapted to the ‘always-on’ nature of social media.

The research examines the hypothesis that “in modern society a gap exists between the person we are and the person we project. And how, in the past decade, this gap has been accentuated by the growth of participation in social media.”

KPMG’s Bernard Salt, Australia’s foremost commentator on consumer, cultural and demographic trends, headlines the event, providing an independent analysis of the research, offering his interpretation on the ‘social media gap’.

The research was carried out by Dr. Rebecca Huntley and her team at Ipsos Mackay, experts in the behaviour of Generation X and Y. Dr Huntley will present her team’s findings and talk through a series of insights on Gen Y behaviour relating to social media.

Tiphereth Gloria, social media strategist at George Patterson Y&R and blogger at Digital Tip will also be weighing in on the debate.

We're expecting lively discussion around the following issues:

  •  How do people feel about their own personal brands online?
  • Is there a difference between the real person and the online person?
  • How prevalent is superficiality in social spaces?
  • When and where is this superficiality appropriate?
  • Should we embrace this trend? Have we embraced it already?
  • How should brands react to this? Should we celebrate it or challenge it?

Please note, we will be at the Ivy Sunroom for this event only, 330 George Street, Sydney. Drinks and canapés at the event will be provided by CUB. All attendees must be over 18 to attend.

We look forward to seeing you at our event!
